Chief John Wiggins of the Bayou La Batre Fire Department is a 44 year veteran of the paid professional fire service. Chief Wiggins joined the Mobile Fire Department in 1970 and spent many years assigned to the Mobile Hazmat Team. Chief Wiggins also served 11 years as President of Local 1349 of the Mobile Fighters Union and was instrumental in forming the Mobile City workers Coalition well as forming the political pack fund which helped establish Local 1349 as one of the most powerful and influential unions in the State of Alabama.
Chief Wiggins served many years on Hazmat 10 and retired from the Mobile Fire Rescue Department in early 2006.
He was hired in July 2006 to establish a professional fire department for the City of Bayou La Batre and hire additional professional firefighters. Chief Wiggins holds many certifications in the Fire/EMS service. He aggressively seeks to provide the citizens of the Bayou La Batre area fast, effective and efficient emergency services provided by trained, certified firefighters.
Chief Wiggins is married with three children, two step-children and many grandchildren.
Assistant Chief Tony Lee of the Bayou La Batre Fire Department is a 24 year veteran of the paid professional fire service and serves as the Assistant Chief. Tony Lee joined the Mobile Fire Department in 1990 and served on the Hazmat Team on Ladder 10 for many years and transferred from there to the City of Bayou La Batre Fire Department in 2006. Tony holds many certifications in the Fire/EMS service and is assigned to one of the three 24-hour shifts at the main station on Wintzell Avenue.
Tony is married with two children.
Grayling Christian of the Bayou La Batre Fire Department is a 24 year veteran of the paid professional fire service and serves as a Fire Service Driver. Grayling joined the Mobile Fire Department in 1990 and served many years on the Hazmat Team on Ladder 10 then transferred to the City of Bayou La Batre Fire Department in 2006. Grayling holds many certifications in the Fire/EMS service and is assigned to one of the three 24-hour shifts at the main station.
Grayling is married with two children.
Chris Williams of the Bayou La Batre Fire Department is a 17 year veteran of the paid professional fire service and serves as a Fire Service Captain. Chris joined the Mobile Fire Department in 1998 and served at Engine Company 3. Chris transferred to the Bayou La Batre Fire Department in 2006. Chris holds many certifications in the Fire/EMS service and is assigned to one of the three 24-hour shifts at the main station on Wintzell Avenue.
Chris is married and has two children.
Rusty Loewen is one of Bayou La Batre Fire Department's newly hired firefighters. Rusty transferred from the Mobile Fire Department in April 2014 and is a certified Firefighter/Driver. Rusty is a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) repair specialist and has already recertified the Bayou La Batre Fire Department's SCBA to national standards resulting in a $7,000 savings to the City of Bayou La Batre. Rusty is assigned to a 24-hour shift at the main station on Wintzell Avenue.
Rusty is married with five children.
