New Fire Truck for City of Bayou La Batre

New Fire Truck

Bayou La Batre Firefighters begin the long progress of training and familiarizing themselves with operating the latest apparatus just purchased by the City of Bayou La Batre.

This new Fire truck is a 2003 HME combination ladder/ pumper, known to the fire service personnel as a "Quint." It is a multifunctional apparatus that replaces two individual trucks each 30 years old and will greatly enhance the capabilities and delivery of services.

Chief Wiggins said "This is a Godsend to our community. It is part of a plan to consolidate and replace old and work out apparatus providing a major cost savings to the taxpayers as well." He also further stated "This administration has listened and worked closely with my department and shares my concerns for the safety of its citizens."

As for now the truck is not yet in service due to ongoing training and the wait time for additional tools and equipment that must be added.  These additional tools and equipment have been ordered.

The members of the Bayou La Batre Fire Department have worked diligently for 6 months planning and researching this apparatus in order to purchase the best multifunctional truck to fit the needs of the community.

The Bayou La Batre Fire Department plans to hold an open house when the truck is deemed equipped and operational.  This open house will serve as a day of celebration for dedicating the truck to service for the Bayou La Batre area and also give the public a chance to meet the Firefighters of the Bayou La Batre Department.
